PV Service Technician

Description

A Service Technician in the Service Department at Sunsense is responsible for a wide range of tasks related to the repair and maintenance of all PV system types. This role requires a combination of field work and light office-based responsibilities including physical labor, troubleshooting, and documentation for PV solar and battery equipment. Flexibility is essential as this position involves working on systems of all types and sizes as well as assisting with new PV installations as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years previous PV installation/service experience and/or education, including battery applications. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in various PV installation and battery environments in a supervised capacity.
  • Possession of any or all the following certifications preferred: NABCEP, OSHA 10/30, First Aid, CO Electrical Licensure, IR training, PV equipment specific training. Alternatively, the candidate should be on a proven path towards obtaining any or all of these certifications.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, PDF software, PV monitoring platforms, and general comfort working with technology.
  • Ability to inspect, install, wire, and program PV equipment in a functional and Code-compliant manner in all capacities (at minimum residential grid-tie and commercial grid-tie).
  • Physical ability to perform all job tasks, including the ability to lift equipment up to 80lbs, working at heights/rooftops, and the use of fall protection systems.
  • PV and ESS troubleshooting skills, quick thinking, and the ability to adjust and make decisions in the field, preferred.
  • Possess a hard-working attitude, be highly reliable, pay attention to detail, and be technically inquisitive.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Primary Tasks

(95% field | 5% office)

  • Work under the supervision of the Lead Service Technician & Service Manager to complete projects in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Safely inspect, install, troubleshoot, and replace PV & BOS components such as: PV modules, racking, batteries, charge controllers, inverters, and distribution equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with site contacts to gather information and provide updates on project/case status to Lead Service Technician or Service Manager.
  • Collaborate with OEM support centers for service case issues, complete troubleshooting and/or replacement procedures, and maintain required documentation. Report RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) information to Service Manager.
  • Complete all necessary project/case documentation in a detailed and timely manner.
  • Collect and organize field-test data using metering tools, cameras, and software.
  • Work as part of a team to fulfill on-site O&M contract tasks, including inverter maintenance & performance testing, combiner and string-level maintenance & performance testing, module and site inspections, as well as verification of system documentation.
  • Maintain high levels of quality with a strong emphasis on safety, taking personal responsibility for one’s own safety and that of others.
  • Care for and maintain company gear, tools, equipment, vehicles, and other company property.
  • Maintain clean and organized working spaces.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly rate of $28-40/hour, depending on experience and electrical licensure.
  • Six-month check-in with annual performance evaluations thereafter.
